In August 2023, India achieved a remarkable milestone in space exploration when the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully landed its Chandrayaan-3 mission on the Moon. This historic achievement made India the first country to land near the Moon’s south pole and the fourth nation in history to achieve a soft lunar landing, following the United States, the Soviet Union, and China.

Background of Chandrayaan Missions

India’s lunar exploration journey began with Chandrayaan-1 in 2008, which successfully orbited the Moon and discovered water molecules on the lunar surface. This groundbreaking discovery brought India international recognition in the field of planetary science.
